Senior Companion Program

The Senior Companion Program offers retired individuals 55 years of age and older the opportunity to serve their community by sharing their time and compassion with adults who have developmental disabilities.  Senior Companion Volunteers devote 15-40 hours per week to helping these adults lead a more independent and productive life.

No formal education is required.  What is important are life experiences and the wisdom that the seniors can share!  Senior Companion volunteers receive a tax-exempt stipend and other benefits.  Senior Companion volunteers are never alone and do not perform cleaning or personal hygiene tasks.  Volunteers are always supervised and serve at Day Programs where they are assigned to North Bay Regional Center clients.  Typical activities include art class, singing, playing games, going for group walks, going out to lunch as a group and encouraging individuals to reach their self-identified goals.

If you are interested in becoming a Senior Companion Volunteer  contact Program Supervisor, Melissa Slama at (707) 566-3005 or send email to MelissaS@nbrc.net
