Disability Providers Warn Overtime Rule May Impact Services

A federal proposal to require overtime pay for many professionals who support people with disabilities living in the community could force service cuts, providers say.   The U.S. Department of Labor is weighing whether to move forward with finalizing a proposed rule that would dramatically increase the number of American workers eligible for overtime pay. CDC Reports No Change in Autism Prevalence

(CNN) —One in 68 children has autism, according to the latest government report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. While the current report (showing data from 2012) shows no change in prevalence from the 2014 report (showing data from 2010 to 2012), the prevalence continues to remain higher than expected, said Dr. Catherine Rice, director of the Emory Autism Center. And it might be too soon to tell if autism prevalence in the United States is starting to stabilize. Read more.

$15 Minimum Wage Qualifies for California’s November Ballot

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A proposal to raise California’s minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2021 qualified Tuesday to appear on the statewide November ballot.

California’s current minimum wage is among the highest in the nation at $10 an hour. The measure backed by a faction of health care workers belonging to the state largest union would raise it by $1 each of the next five years. Read more.
