Target Offering Carts For Shoppers With Special Needs

Retail-giant Target plans to make a special cart available at nearly all of its stores that alleviates the need for caregivers to simultaneously push a cart and a wheelchair while shopping. (Thinkstock)

Brian Britz’s 2-year-old daughter cannot sit in a regular shopping cart because of health issues and developmental delays. That means shopping is a family affair with one parent pushing the medical stroller while the other pushes the shopping cart. To alleviate the difficulties that parents like his face, Target said that by March 15 the majority of stores will have at least one Caroline’s Cart. Read more.

Napa County Confirms Case of Zika in Pregnant Woman

A pregnant woman from Napa County has tested positive for Zika virus after traveling to a Central American country, county health officials confirmed Wednesday.

The unidentified woman traveled during the last three months and is not currently showing signs of Zika virus, according to a Napa County news release. Read more.

A major clothing designer is launching a line of apparel just for children with special needs. Tommy Hilfiger released a line of adaptive clothing on its website Tuesday.

The 22-piece children’s offering is comprised of items that look just like clothing in the company’s regular spring collection, but include magnets, velcro and other modifications to allow for easy on and off for kids with disabilities. Read more.

Dueling Star Ratings May Confuse Some Home Health Patients

Patients looking for home health care services will be impressed if they check out the federal government’s ratings of AccentCare. Two of the company’s home health agencies in California — in San Diego and Newport Beach and Rancho Cordova — each earned 4.5 or 4 stars, nearly the top quality score, primarily based on Medicare’s assessment of how often patients got better.
