Regional Centers will Take Over from SDC

A conversation with NBRC’s Executive Director, Bob Hamilton

From the day they learned that Sonoma Developmental Center (SDC) was to be shuttered, the parents and loved ones of those who live there have been anguished over what will happen to their charges. They have made it abundantly clear that they do not expect SDC residents to receive the same level of care they have enjoyed at the 125-year-old institution situated on a thousand acres of lush Sonoma countryside outside of Glen Ellen.

Revamp Of State Program For Medically Fragile Kids Moves Forward In Legislature

California lawmakers on Tuesday pushed forward compromise legislation that would transform how the state’s most medically fragile kids receive care.

Parents and advocates said they could support the most recent version of the bill after its author Sen. Ed Hernandez (D-West Covina) and his staff made changes to better protect the quality of care for children with special needs. Read more.

New Legislation for Developmental Services

With Governor Brown’s new budget comes new legislation for Developmental Services. Trailer Bill language (AB 1606) includes new language regarding the Developmental Centers services, new rates for licensed homes, work activity programs, and competitive employment amongst other things.
