North Bay Regional Center wants to make sure that we are continuously improving.

We strive to exceed our mission, desired outcomes, and that we are in compliance with all requirements.

The Disparity Funds Program supports projects that aim to increase equity in service access.

Proposals must link to an identified issue or barrier in the local community or statewide, which has been identified through POS data, stakeholder feedback, and/or RC plans and recommendations to promote equity and reduce disparities.

We continue to fulfill all planned activities with the intent of improving outcomes as directed by our community members, Board of Directors, and NBRC staff.

How do we continue to improve in our efforts to address disparities in purchases of service?

We are continuing activities from this year and prior years, such as the continued outreach and education, staff training, use of social media, providing orientation to Regional Center services to new families, and increased collaboration with community partners:

• Promotora project

• Translation of materials and information into Spanish and Tagalog

• Cultural Sensitivity presentations to staff and vendors

• Agency-wide implementation of Person Centered Thinking, Planning, and Practices

Mandatory Orientation

If you have been selected to participate in the Self- Determination Program, you must attend a Self- Determination Program Orientation before you can move on. 

    Orientations are held in Napa (610 Airpark Road) on the 3rd Friday of every month from 10-12 

 in Santa Rosa (2351 Mendocino Ave) on the 3rd Monday of every month from 10-12.

Orientations are required and will cover critical information about the Self-Determination Program including information about person centered planning.

The Self-Determination Program is based on the practice that people —

• Plan their own lives and make their own decisions
• Determine how funding is spent for their services and supports
• Plan and choose their own formal and informal supports
• Take responsibility for the decisions made
• Validate those decisions through maintaining ongoing control

NBRC is committed to providing all five principals of self-determination.

• The five principles of self-determination are —
  • Freedom to exercise the same rights as all citizens; to establish, with freely chosen supports, family and friends, where they want to live, with whom they want to live, how their time will be occupied, and who supports them;
  • Authority to control a budget in order to purchase services and supports of their choosing;
  • Support, including the ability to arrange resources and personnel, which will allow flexibility to live in the community of their choice;
  • Responsibility, which includes the opportunity to take responsibility for making decisions in their own lives and accept a valued role in their community, and,
  • Confirmation, in making decisions in their own lives by designing and operating the service that they rely on.

The Department of Developmental Services (Department) is pleased to announce the Home and Community-Based Services Settings Final Rule Training initiative. This initiative aims to provide more information and support for stakeholders in California to be in alignment with the Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Settings Final Rule. The Department is partnering with Public Consulting Group and Support Development Associates for these trainings.

The initiative will consist of a series of in-person trainings and webinars held across the state in 2019 at no cost to training participants.  The initiative will consist of 14 trainings that cover specific topics related to the HCBS Settings Final Rule, including an overview of the HCBS Settings Final Rule; how person-centered service planning supports the rule; an overview of the provider assessment process, including consumer input; and achieving compliance.  Six trainings will be in-person, and eight trainings will be web-based.

Trainings will be held from August through October 2019.

The purpose of these trainings is to educate, train, and support all California stakeholders to better understand the HCBS Settings Final Rule and inform all stakeholders about California’s process for coming into compliance with the Final Rule. These trainings will help assure that key stakeholders, including individuals and their families, providers, and regional center staff are knowledgeable of, and understand the principles of HCBS, including the importance of person-centered service planning.  This knowledge is critical as the Department undertakes the assessment of services required by the rule and works with all stakeholders throughout the transition process. While certain topics are more directed to providers or to individuals and families, each training is open to all California stakeholders. Public Consulting Group or Support Development Associates will provide a glossary of terms at the beginning of each training to create a common vocabulary so that all stakeholders can benefit from each training.

The first training of this series is a webinar that will provide an overview of the HCBS Settings Final Rule. There will be four two-hour webinars on the same topic, each covering the same material. Information to register is provided in the HCBS Setting Overview Training Flyer and the Department requests your assistance in sharing with individuals and family members receiving regional center services, regional center staff, consumer or family-run committees and organizations, vendor committees, and other community-based organizations.

Materials and recorded webinar and/or presentations will be distributed by e-mail and posted on the Department’s website at https://www.dds.ca.gov/HCBS/.

The Senior Companion Program offers men and women, 55 years of age and older who meet the qualifications, the opportunity to serve their community by sharing their time and attention with adults that have require specialized support. We serve adults in the catchment area of North Bay Regional Center. These are caring volunteers who devote 5-40 hours per week to helping these adults lead a more independent and productive life. In improving the lives of the people who they serve, the volunteers enrich their own lives. No formal education is required. What is important are life experiences and the wisdom that the seniors will share. Senior companion volunteers served in local Art Galleries, Vocational sites, Adult Day Care Centers, and Day Treatment Programs specializing in working with people with developmental disabilities.

Senior Companion receive the following benefits:
